hand rejuvenation

What is Hand Rejuvenation and How Long Does it Last?

When you think of plastic surgery most people typically think of things like breast implants, botox/fillers for your face, liposuction, tummy tucks, and things of that nature, but not many people think about hands.

You would be surprised at how many people don’t like their own hands, especially after they’ve gone through some sort of rejuvenation or surgical procedure for their face. Once they see how well their face looks after using injectable fillers or having a face lift, often times they begin to notice that their hands don’t match the look of their face.

The hands can be an obvious sign that someone has had work done to their face, because more of often than not, your hands will develop unsightly veins or discoloration as you age. And while your face has been rejuvenated through various non-surgical and/or surgical techniques, your hands remain the same.

It’s one of those body parts that people tend to overlook, or not think about, when considering plastic surgery to help them look younger, but once you point it out to them, it can become more obvious.

Types of Hand Rejuvenation

The most common types of hand rejuvenation come in the form of non-surgical treatments. There are a variety of ways to help rejuvenate your hands to make them look more youthful and to help you feel more comfortable with them.

Most of these non-surgical procedures are relatively painless and will allow you to continue about your normal life relatively quickly.

Let’s take a look at some of the more common types of hand rejuvenation procedures that are available.

1. Dermal Fillers / Fat Transfers

Dermal fillers are most commonly used on the face to help reduce wrinkles and aging lines, but can also be used on the hands to help with the same thing. Wrinkles on the hands can be filled in with dermal fillers, while unsightly veins and tendons can be hidden as well.

By using dermal fillers to add bulk to the top of your hands, you can reduce the sight of large veins as well as the tendons that run through the top of your hands. As you get older, your hands tend to thin out and these areas become more visible.

Fat transfers can also help reduce these signs of aging. By taking fat from other areas of your body and injecting it into your hands, you can gain back years of aging.

Dermal fillers and fat transfers are one of the easiest things you can do to help reduce the signs of aging in your hands.

2. Laser Skin Resurfacing / IPL

As we get older our skin begins to develop discoloration and sometimes aging spots. These spots can appear as dark circles on your skin, and if they start to overtake your hands, they can become quite unsightly, especially if you’ve undergone procedures to make your face look youthful.

These aging spots and discoloration can be lightened up with the use of Laser Skin Resurfacing and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). IPL helps to lighten the pigmentation in your skin caused by the sun.

Reducing the darkness of these sunspots can bring a youthful look back to your hands.

Combine IPL with Laser Skin Resurfacing and you can fade the sunspots and resurface rough skin to help achieve the younger appearance that you’re looking for.

Lasers and light therapies have come a long way over the years. They are simple, non-surgical, procedures, that can give you lasting results with little to no pain.

3. Skin Tightening

As we talk about non-surgical technology improving, another area of improvement in the world of plastic surgery comes from skin tightening procedures.

While most people talk about skin tightening in terms of helping with thighs, breasts, tummy, and neck, it can also be used to help with the skin on your hands.

Radiofrequencies are used to help tighten the existing collagen in your hands, while also promoting new collagen production. By doing so it causes the skin on your hands to become firmer, which will give them a younger appearance.

How Long Does Hand Rejuvenation Last?

Depending on what sort of procedure you decide to undergo for your hands will determine how long the effects will last.

Unfortunately, none of these non-surgical techniques are going to be permanent and your hands will continue to show signs of aging as you get older.

Dermal fillers in the hands should last at least 9 months, but in most cases you’ll still notice the effects for between 12-14 months.

The fillers slowly break down over time and are filtered out of the body, so this type of treatment needs to be refreshed every year or so.

The good thing about dermal fillers though, is that the results are usually seen almost immediately.

With IPL and laser treatments, the main reason these procedures aren’t permanent is because our bodies continue to age.

As we continue to age and continue to enjoy the sun, our bodies will continue to show signs of aging. And while the sunspots and discoloration that was corrected using laser therapy or IPL will continue to look better, other problem areas can arise over time.

Unfortunately, science has not discovered a way to reverse the aging process, but with the new technological advancements in non-surgical procedures, we can help to slow it down.

breast lift non-surgical

Is a Non-Surgical Breast Lift Possible?

With breast augmentation surgery being one of the most popular forms of plastic surgery in the world these days, it should come as no surprise that people are looking for an easy, less invasive, way to achieve similar results.

Non-surgical procedures have come a long way since the introduction of things like botox and injectable fillers, with various non-surgical options now available for skin tightening, hair loss treatments, and even fat reduction. However, breast augmentation has always been fairly limited to traditional surgical methods to achieve the results that most people want.

While a breast lift procedure is not the same as receiving breast implants, it still requires surgery in order to contour the breasts and remove excess skin in order to lift the breasts in a way that makes the patient happy.

Can a Breast Lift Be Performed Non-Surgically

As stated above, technology has advanced over the years and has allowed for certain non-surgical procedures to be much more effective than they once were. But this does not mean that we’re at the point where CoolSculpting or Thermi-Tight, or things of that nature, will give you the same results that you would get out of a surgical procedure.

When it comes to breast lift procedures, most patients come into the office looking to turn their sagging breasts into perkier, more rounded, breasts, which can’t really be accomplished with non-surgical procedures alone.

In some cases, where the sagging isn’t as severe, things like Thermi-Tight, which uses radio frequencies to help tighten the skin, can provide some benefit to sagging breasts. However, most patients that come through the door don’t just have a minor case of sagging breasts. Most patients are seeing the effects of weight fluctuation, either through pregnancy or lifestyle changes, as well as the effects of aging and gravity.

Once you’re breasts begin to sag and you start to get to the point where you want to correct them, it’s usually too late to see the results you want from a non-surgical procedure.

This doesn’t mean that it’s not possible to get some enhancement from these various types of skin tightening procedures, but in general, most patients that desire a breast lift are going to require a surgical procedure in order to achieve the results they want.

Can a Breast Lift Be Done Without Scars?

One of the biggest reasons that women are looking for non-surgical breast lift options is that they don’t want to deal with scars.

Scars are an unfortunate side effect of any plastic surgery procedure, but skilled surgeons are able to perform these surgeries in a way that minimizes the visibility of these scars. There are ways to hide the scars in the folds of the breast or around the areola so that minimal scarring will be visible only when the breasts are exposed, and scars will be hidden when wearing things like a bikini.

Unfortunately, if a surgical breast lift is required, there are going to be scars. It’s just part of the process. A non-surgical breast lift would, in theory, allow for a breast lift to be performed without any visible scarring, but with the technology where it is right now, this just isn’t possible to the degree that most women need.

If you’re looking to repair or rejuvenate your sagging breasts, you will achieve the optimal results through a surgical breast lift procedure. Non-surgical breast enhancements are available in varying degrees, but cannot replicate what can be done surgically.

Skin tightening, PRP treatments, and collagen-stimulating procedures can definitely help with minor sagging, but will not give you that roundness along the top of the breast that most women are looking for.

If you’re looking into breast lift options, it’s always important to talk with your doctor about what you’re looking to get out of the procedure. They will be able to sit down and discuss all of the various options, surgical and non-surgical, depending on what the end goal is.

At Dr. Adams Plastic Surgery in Dallas, TX we specialize in breast augmentation procedures and would be happy to help discuss all of the various options available when it comes to breast lifts. Please contact us today for more information.

facial rejuvenation

How to Get the Most out of Facial Rejuvenation

One of the first things that people notice about you is your face. Your eyes, your mouth, your nose, and your complexion are the focal point when conversing with someone, or meeting someone for the first time, so don’t you want to make a great first impression?

As our bodies begin to age, one of the first areas to show major signs of aging is our face. We begin to develop wrinkles, creases, sunspots, and all sorts of little imperfections that can prevent us from feeling young and confident.

There are a number of options available in terms of minor plastic surgery procedures as well as non-surgical treatments and solutions to help rejuvenate your face. Some can range from very expensive, to less than $100, but it’s hard to understand which treatments are going to give you the best results for your money.

Non-Surgical vs. Surgical Procedure Results

In most cases, when it comes to facial procedures, non-surgical treatments aren’t going to give you as good of as outcome as a surgical procedure would. Fillers, topical creams/lotions, laser procedures, and other forms of non-surgical treatments can’t fully compete with things like face lifts, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth the money.

Not everyone wants to go through a surgical procedure or doesn’t want to shell out the money for one, so in those cases non-surgical treatments are a great way to help rejuvenate your face without the commitment that surgery sometimes brings.

So the main thing to think about when talking about getting the most out of a facial rejuvenation is it all boils down to your needs. Your surgeon should be able to discuss all of the options within your budget and your physical concerns and lay out a treatment plan that is best for your situation.

What procedures or treatments you go with at that point will be determined by exactly what you’re looking address in your face and your doctor will be able to get you on the right track.

Overall Best Facial Rejuvenation Procedure

As we said, surgical procedures are almost always going to provide a better, long-term, solution for facial rejuvenation than non-surgical procedures. With non-surgical procedures you’re going to be in and out of the office with almost instant results (or final results within a few days), but they are often temporary and require upkeep to maintain. This means more trips to the doctor and more money.

When it comes to surgical procedures, there’s more of an up-front commitment, but the results are going to last a lot longer and are going to be more impactful. And while there are a number of different facial plastic surgeries that you can undergo, most doctors agree that the face lift is going to get you the most benefit.

Face lifts are designed to help tighten up the skin on your face, particularly around your lower face and skin around the neck. It also helps alleviate wrinkles and aging lines that have appeared over the years.

When a face lift is performed, the skin is separated from the underlying connective tissue and muscles. The surgeon will then adjust the facial tissue under the skin to make them firmer so that when the skin is draped back over, it will give your face a smoother, rejuvenated look. Excess skin that has caused the face to sag and droop will also be removed.

While there are non-surgical procedures that can help tighten up the skin on your face, it’s difficult for those types of treatments to penetrate deep enough to affect the deep connective tissue and muscles, which doesn’t allow for the results you would see with a full surgical face lift.

If you’re truly looking to get the most out of facial rejuvenation, and restore the youthfulness to your facial features, the best way is to opt for a face lift. But as we said, surgery may not be for everyone, so we recommend talking with a surgeon and discussing what you want to get out of a procedure and they will be able to help you make an informed decision on whether or not non-surgical options can get you to the place you want.

If you have questions about facial rejuvenation procedures, or non-surgical procedures, please contact us today and we’d be happy to setup a consultation with Dr. Adams to discuss the various options available.

mommy makeover

What Does a Mommy Makeover Consist of?

Looking to get your body back to what it used to be before having children, but can’t seem to tighten up certain areas? Then a mommy makeover procedure may be just want you need!

After having a baby, a woman’s body can sometimes have a hard time going back to the way it used to be. With the added baby weight, as well as stretch marks that come with the expanding skin, sometimes just working out and eating right isn’t enough to get back to what you desire.

A mommy makeover procedure actually consists of a number of different procedures rolled into one. Think of it as a package deal that is designed to help new moms take that last leap that a fitness regimen just can’t help with.

Your surgeon will be able to talk to you about which procedures your body is best suited for, so there’s no need to have all of these done, but these are the procedures that can help tighten up loose skin, repair stretch marks, and help with other areas of the body that may have been affected during pregnancy.

Surgical Mommy Makeover Procedures

These procedures will require semi-invasive surgery in order to help restore the body. Unlike non-surgical procedures, which consist of things like injectables, fat cooling techniques, and other treatments that do not require incisions in the skin.

Tummy Tuck / Liposuction

As we all know, having a baby does a number of incredible things to a woman’s body. The organs adjust to add the space needed to allow the baby to thrive and grow, while the outer skin stretches to accommodate the growing baby inside. This skin stretching and growth can cause unwanted side effects after the baby is born.

Skin is naturally elastic, but only to a certain point. Once your skin stretches beyond it’s capacity, it’s hard to get it back to where it once was without a little outside help, and that’s where a Tummy Tuck and/or liposuction can come into play.

A tummy tuck can help tighten up the muscles in the abdomen, while also helping to remove excess skin that may be loose from where it wasn’t able to fully bounce back to it’s original state.

Liposuction can help eliminate stubborn pockets of fat around the belly area that diet and exercise just don’t seem to be helping with.

Breast Lift, Augmentation, Reduction

In addition to changes in the abdomen area, female breasts undergo a massive change during pregnancy. Breast become larger and, in most cases, become the primary food source for a newborn baby. Between the weight gain and hormone changes that occur during pregnancy, and milk production and breast feeding after the baby is born, breasts can lose their firmness and begin to droop or sag once the bottom begins to return to pre-pregnancy state.

As part of a mommy makeover, the breasts can be reshaped, adjusted, and lifted to create a more natural, pre-pregnancy, look and feel. Implants can also be added to adjust size and shape as well.

Breast augmentation is one of the most common procedures for women post pregnancy and is a specialty here at Dr. Adams Plastic Surgery.

Augmentation is truly the only way to restore your breasts to what they previously were, and can do wonders for your self-esteem.

Non-Surgical Procedures

If you’re looking to for something a little less invasive than the procedures mentioned above, then injectables or tightening solutions are a great way to boost your confidence and help restore your body without having to go under the knife.

Injectables and Facial Fillers

Injectable fillers are a great way to help alleviate wrinkles, aging lines, and other facial imperfections without having to undergo surgery. They can also be used to help enhance your lips, reduce noticeable scars, and give you an overall more youthful appearance.

Skin Tightening

As technology continues to advance, new methods for tightening up loose skin have emerged. Whether you’re looking to tighten up your loose underarms, thighs, or belly, there are a variety of options out there now that can help.

Through our AYA Med Spa in Dallas, we offer a variety of non-surgical skin-tightening treatments to help you look and feel your best this summer. From Coolsculpting to topical skin care products, we can have you skin looking incredible before you know it.

A mommy makeover doesn’t just consist of a single procedure or treatment to help you get back to your pre-pregnancy self, it incorporates a variety of procedures and techniques to help you to feel your best.

Getting your body back the way you want it, post-pregnancy, is something that a lot of women strive for, but sometimes it’s not as easy as expected, especially towards the end. The body changes once you have a baby and things that may have worked in the past, like exercise and proper diet, may not get you across the finish line.

If you have any questions or concerns about our mommy makeover procedures, please contact us today and we can help figure out what the best course of action for you may be.

beauty face mask

Which Beauty Face Masks Are Best For Your Skin?

Face masks have quickly become a part of our everyday lives over the past year. In ordser to help curb the spread of COVID-19, we have been asked to do our part by wearing face masks when out in public.

But that’s not the type of face mask we want to talk about. There are a number of resources available regarding those types of face masks. Today we wanted to discuss beauty face masks.

Beauty face masks are a great way to rejuvenate the skin on your face, with little effort. These face masks have been around for decades, but they seem to have gained popularity recently as people are forced to look at themselves more often these days.

With so many different types of beauty face masks out there, which one do you choose? Do different face masks do different things?

Let’s take a look at the different types of beauty face masks available today and which ones are best for your skin.

How Do Beauty Face Masks Work?

Beauty masks are gaining a lot of popularity these days as people are doing more work from home and are forced to look at themselves via their webcams. This has led to an increase in facial plastic surgery and non-surgical rejuvenation. Sometimes surgery, or even a non-surgical procedure, isn’t the right option for everyone. This is where beauty masks come in to play.

Beauty masks offer an alternative to those other options that is less costly and can be done right at home. And while the benefits may not be as great as the other options, they can still keep your skin looking and feeling great.

So How Do Beauty Masks Work?

Beauty face masks are pretty simple in the way that they work. Different face masks have different ingredients in them, which can cause different results, but the main idea behind them is that those ingredients are forced to stay on your face for longer than a traditional cream or lotion.

With a cream or a lotion, after you apply them to your skin, you typically are rinsing them off and moving on. With a face mask, you’re leaving the mask on for anywhere between 10 minutes to overnight, depending on the product you’re using, and the results you’re looking for.

Creams and lotion are great for taking care of the immediate effects of dry skin or itchy skin, but if you’re looking to help prevent things like aging lines, wrinkles, chronic dry skin, etc., then you’ll want to look into something that stays on your face longer.

By staying on your face longer, and being trapped by the mask itself, the active ingredients in the mask are able to be absorbed more by your skin, thus giving it a better chance of working.

That being said, you do have to be careful when choosing the type of mask you want. Depending on the results you’re looking for, not all masks are made equally.

What Are the Different Types of Masks?

There are a number of different beauty face masks out there designed to help with different aspects of skincare. Some are designed to be worn for shorter periods of time, while others are designed to be worn overnight or for hours.

Let’s take a look at a few of the most popular face masks available on the market to better understand which one will work best for you.

1. Cream Masks

Cream masks provide a high level of moisturization and hydration to the skin. These are a great fit for people with normal to dry skin as it can help lock in some of that moisture and keep the skin looking healthy and smoother. If you’re really looking to boost the hydration in your skin, then cream masks are a great choice.

2. Sheet Masks

Sheet masks have become increasingly popular over the last few years. They are an easy, convenient way to cleanse your face. Sheet masks come in a variety of different formulas specifically created for various skin types. So unlike cream masks or clay masks, which are best used on specific skin types, you can find sheet masks in all varieties. They are super easy to use, just apply to your face, let sit for 30+ minutes, and remove. You can even seal in the effects of the mask by applying your favorite moisturizer on top after you remove the mask.

3. Clay Masks

Clay masks are designed to be used with normal to oily skin. These masks are made to naturally detoxify the skin without the use of oils, which is why they are great for people with oily skin. If you are prone to acne, these types of masks can also work great. They will harden on the skin and absorb all of the dirt, oil, and grime that may be accumulating on your face. They can also help to remove blackheads and clean pours.

It is important to note that clay masks tend to have more of a drying affect than other masks, which is why they aren’t recommended for people with already dry skin.

4. Exfoliating Masks

Exfoliating masks can generally be used on all skin types and are another way to help prevent, or reduce, acne. These masks are designed to open up your pours and remove dead skin cells from your face, leaving your restored skin looking amazing. These masks can also be very drying in the way that they work, so be sure to protect the skin afterwards by using your favorite moisturizer.

Beauty Mask Results vs. Non-Surgical Treatments

Beauty face masks are a great way to help protect the face on your skin, reduce oils and acne, as well as prevent your skin from drying out too much. They can help restore that youthful shine and make your skin appear healthier.

In most cases though, these types of masks are not going to be a replacement for non-surgical treatments. Laser and other facial treatments can enhance the skin in ways that these facial creams just can’t do. While the chemicals in these masks are being absorbed into your skin, your skin is naturally built to protect from outside elements, so there is only so much that is being absorbed.

Non-surgical treatments are designed to circumvent some of the natural protections our skin offers in order to rejuvenate the skin. So it’s important to keep your expectations in check.

At the AYA Med Spa, we offer a variety of non-surgical skin treatments that can help rejuvenate your face, remove wrinkles and fine lines, while giving you back that healthy glow you had when you were younger.

We can provide guidance on what skincare treatments will give you the results you desire without having to undergo surgery. For more information, contact us today!
