uneven breasts

How to Fix Uneven Breasts

One thing that a lot of women suffer from in terms of their body is uneven breast size. Uneven breasts can form at birth or can form over time as the body develops, but one thing that most women can agree on is that it’s an annoying trait to deal with.

Whether it’s a small discrepancy or a large one, having an asymmetrical chest can make a woman feel self-conscious while also making it difficult to find clothing that fits properly.

There are a variety of different solutions to help with uneven breasts which includes surgical procedures as well as padding and other textile-based solutions. Our goal is to make sure that every woman feels comfortable in their own body and feels good about themselves when they try on that dress or look in the mirror.

Even though, from the outside looking in, we may not notice the subtle differences in a person’s breast size, a woman notices every day and it can affect their mental health over time.

While there are many different options, in terms of clothing and supporting items, that can help a woman even out their breasts when wearing clothes, we want to focus on the different types of surgical procedures that can help permanently retain the symmetry of the chest.

Surgical Procedures for Uneven Breasts

When talking about correcting uneven breasts using surgery, there are two procedures that we typically recommend.

Breast Augmentation

One of the ways that we can help with uneven breasts is to perform a breast augmentation. When most people think of breast augmentation their minds immediately go to making the breasts larger, but that’s no the only thing the breast augmentation can do for you.

Yes, a breast augmentation will use an implant, but those implants don’t always have to be used to make your breasts larger, they can also be used to reshape. Reshaping a breast using breast augmentation surgery is a great way to even out the breasts and ensure that they remain symmetrical for years to come.

A breast augmentation to help correct uneven breasts will typically help add volume to the breasts themselves as well, but they don’t need to look unnatural or extremely large.

It’s important to discuss with your surgeon what you’re looking to achieve by undergoing this procedure as they will know the best solution for the problem.

Breast Lift

If you’re looking to correct uneven breasts but you don’t want to go the implant route, you can opt for a breast lift.

While a breast lift is often thought of as a way to help reverse the effects of aging and gravity, they can also be used as way to lift and reshape breasts that are asymmetrical.

This is a great way to create a more symmetrical look without having to add an implant or make your breasts larger. A lot of women opt for this surgical method as they age since it can also offer a more youthful look.

Unfortunately, as you get older the elasticity of the skin deteriorates and gravity begins to cause the breasts to sag. This can also be exacerbated by having children or weight fluctuations. Because this is a very common issue for women, a breast lift is a great way to solve that and also bring a more symmetrical look to your chest.

What Procedure is Best for Your Uneven Breasts?

The best way to figure out which of these two surgical procedures is best for your specific issue is to talk with a certified plastic surgeon. Once you’ve expressed your concerns and what sort of results you’re looking for, they will be able to talk to you about the best solution.

At Dr. Adams Plastic Surgery in Dallas, TX, we have many years of experience in dealing with uneven breasts and how to correct them to get you looking and feeling as best as possible. We want all the women that come through our doors to leave knowing that they got the best care possible and with results they can be proud of.

Live Streaming Plastic Surgery Procedures on Social Media

As society in general continues to move towards a more digital landscape, sharing and posting photos, videos, and information on social media continues to grow. Younger generations are using social media and the internet for things that the older generations could never have imagined. It’s truly amazing that most people have a device in their pockets, with them at all times, that can answer any question they may have, at any time.

With large social networks taking over the internet, and the spread of information becoming easy, and sometimes dangerous, it’s interesting to look to the future to see where we’re headed.

Today, most people use social media to keep in touch with friends and family members, to post photos and videos focusing on what they are doing, and even using these platforms to look for future life partners. Things that would have gotten you strange looks in the infancy of the internet are now the lifeblood of what the internet is.

It’s amazing and scary at the same time.

As we’ve seen all over the world as of late, information can spread extremely fast on social networks and it’s hard for some people to understand what is real and what is exaggerated or fake. We’ve seen this in the current political landscape as well as in the medical field.

Social media is a great tool to use as individuals and as businesses, but where do we draw the line? What sort of things should we be posting and what things should we reserve for private conversations?

There’s a fine line between truth and misinformation these days, as well as restraint when it comes to publishing certain things.

With that being said, more and more doctors and surgeons are moving into the social realm when it comes to communicating with patients and even trying to attract new patients.

Should Surgical Procedures Be Lived Streamed on Social Media?

Live streaming is becoming more and more popular as technology advances and people are looking for more ways to interact with people. Having the ability to share an experience with your followers or fans on social media brings are more personal touch to the idea of online interaction. But where do we draw the line?

There are many plastic surgeons in the country that broadcast their surgical procedures live on their social media channels for anyone to watch. This could be anything from a simple procedure all the way up to extensive surgery, but one fact remains, it’s not for everyone.

As a patient, would you find that watching a surgeon perform a procedure live would help you make a decision about whether or not to use that doctor, or to undergo that procedure for yourself?

As a doctor, are you comfortable enough, and trust yourself enough, to put yourself and your work out there for the world to see?

As doctors ourselves, we would hope that anyone live streaming their procedures would be highly skilled and highly capable of performing the surgeries to the best of their ability. We hope that all their techniques and the way they handle themselves, are conducive to the best results for the patient.

Surgical procedures can sometimes be more intense than a lot of people realize, but doctors understand what they can and cannot do to a patient in order to achieve the best results with the least amount of side effects. There are also challenges that can arise during surgery that may not be suitable to show viewers on social media.

In certain cases we can see why it would be important to broadcast a surgery across the internet, but live streaming every surgery, or random surgeries, has a lot of risk involved. We don’t recommend always live streaming surgical procedures unless they are intended for private training viewers. The public doesn’t always understand what goes into surgeries and it could land you in hot water with the patient and could even be used in court if something were to go wrong.

Social Media and Plastic Surgery

Social media is a great way to attract potential patients and to show off your work, but we recommend sticking to photos and pre-recorded videos as opposed to live demonstrations. While we don’t condone editing or manipulating the images and videos that you show on your website, there’s so much that can go wrong, or be misconstrued, in a live video when compared to picking and choosing what shows up on your website and social channels.

If you’re looking for other ways to engage your followers, or possible future patients, live streaming does have its pros though. Answering questions from people live, or talking about different procedures using images and diagrams, is a great way to utilize live streaming without having to show the actual surgery.

Finding new and innovative ways to use social media in the medical setting can help set you apart from other doctors, but live streaming surgical procedures can open you up to a lot of the negative aspects of the internet, which may have the opposite effect you’re trying to accomplish.

loose skin

How to Deal with Massive Weight Loss and Loose Skin

The goal of plastic surgery is to be able to help yourself look and feel your best, but plastic surgery isn’t the only option. Eating healthy and exercise are both great ways to help shed unwanted pounds and get your body back into shape.

When you start eating healthier and working out the pounds will start to fall off if you stick with it. Your body will start to feel better, you’ll have more energy, and you won’t feel as worn down as you might have in the past.

But depending on how much weight you plan on dropping, you could run into an issue that a lot of people face, loose skin.

Why Does Loose Skin Happen?

Loose skin is something that happens when you gain a lot of weight and then lose it. When you’re gaining weight, your skin stretches out to accommodate the added layers of fat that your body is developing, which in turn causes the skin to lose its elasticity.

After gaining the weight and then working to lose the weight, a lot of people notice that the skin that expanded while they were gaining weight, did not tighten up and go back to how it was after losing the weight.

Because the skin has lost its elasticity through the weight gain process, it is impossible for it to regain the strength it needs to be tight against the body again once you lose the weight. Because of this plastic surgery is often required to remove the excess skin that has formed.

Treating Loose Skin

There are non-surgical ways to help treat loose skin, but in the case of major weight loss, surgery is going to give you the best results.

Minor skin tightening can be achieved through procedures like CoolSculpting and SkinTyte, but these cannot help with large areas of loose skin.

Loose skin in the stomach, face, legs, and arms are best treated with skin removal surgery. This procedure will physically remove the loose skin from your body while helping you achieve the tight, fit, look you are striving for. It can also help remove stretch marks that may have developed due to the stretching of the skin.

There are a few downsides to having loose skin corrected via plastic surgery though.

Loose Skin Surgery Downsides

The biggest downside to having loose skin repaired is that oftentimes when you lose a significant amount of weight, you end up having loose skin in multiple places across your body. You’ll most likely end up with large amounts of loose skin around your mid-section, breasts, under arms and even your legs.

Because this loose skin is spread out across your body, it will require multiple surgical procedures in order to fix everything. This can be time consuming and painful to go through, but in the long run it will help boost your self esteem and help you feel better about the new body you’ve worked so hard to achieve.

The other downside of having your loose skin removed is that while the loose skin will no longer be on your body, the existing skin will still not have the same elasticity that it did previously.

Think of it like a rubber band. The more you stretch out a rubber band the less elastic the rubber band becomes. And no matter what you do to the rubber band after that, there’s no good way to return it to its original form. This is how our skin reacts to stretching as well.

Your doctor will be able to help explain what you should expect from the surgery based on your specific case. Every person is different in how they react to large amounts of weight loss. Some people develop loose skin in their face some in their mid-section, and some in your breasts. This is why it’s important to discuss all your options with your doctor to help manage expectations and get you the best results possible.

plastic surgery millennials

Most Popular Plastic Surgery Procedure for Millennials

As plastic surgery becomes more commonplace and accepted within the ranks of society, there’s one group that has embraced it more than any other, millennials.

The number of millennials opting for plastic surgery recently continues to grow and outpace those of the generation 56 years and older, and it may surprise you as to what procedure millennials are requesting most often.

As we’ve discussed previously on our site, during the stay-at-home orders over the last couple years, because of COVID, more and more office workers have been forced to work from remote locations rather than go into an office. Because of these virtual interactions, workers have been forced to look at their own faces on their computer screen more often than normal.

Seeing your face in the mirror in the morning is one thing, but a lot of folks were forced to look at themselves for hours on end while attending these virtual meetings which has led to a shift in the age groups looking towards facial plastic surgery.

Rhinoplasty Is the Most Popular Plastic Surgery for People Under 34

Not breast augmentation and not liposuction, the most popular plastic surgery procedure for millennials under 34 is rhinoplasty (nose job).

Rhinoplasty is extremely common across all age groups, but the millennials have embraced it more than any other age group over the last few years.

There are a couple of reasons for this, one which we talked about above. With all of the ZOOM calls and video conferencing that people have had to do as the corporate landscape shifts towards remote work has forced people to look at themselves more often.

One of the other reasons that rhinoplasty is more popular amongst the 35 and under crowd is because the older age groups have begun to focus on more age-related forms of plastic surgery and non-surgical enhancements.

Rhinoplasty typically isn’t a procedure you have done to help with the anti-aging process. It’s not designed to get rid of wrinkles or to help your face appear more youthful, it’s designed to help reshape the nose and help with insecurities that the patient many feel about their nose. In some circumstances there are health conditions that can also be alleviated with a rhinoplasty procedure, but in general, this procedure is not used to help with anti-aging.

Anti-Aging Procedures

As patients get older their focus tends to change from correcting the features they were born with to trying to maintain the look they had when they were younger. The top procedures for women, overall, in 2021, were neurotoxins, fillers, and then rhinoplasty, while for men it was rhinoplasty, neurotoxins, and blepharoplasty. Hair transplants have also been gaining popularity over the last couple years amongst men.

Non-surgical procedures continue to gain popularity over traditional plastic surgery in a lot of areas as the technology proves to have great results. There are even non-surgical fillers that can help change the appearance of your nose in similar ways to what a rhinoplasty can do.

The problem with using fillers as a substitute for a rhinoplasty is that fillers are not permanent and can’t do all of the necessary reshaping that may be needed with some patients. Fillers will be absorbed by the body over time and will require follow-up/touch-up appointments to maintain the desired look.

A rhinoplasty is a permanent procedure that will help reshape and rebuild your nose to help create the look you want. They can be used in everything from shaving down bumps in the nose to changing the shape of the tip of the nose. These are things that fillers cannot accurately do without some sort of surgical intervention.

Plastic Surgery

Age is just a number when it comes to plastic surgery. Yes, there are some procedures that become riskier as you get older, but the overall goal of plastic surgery is to help you look and feel your best. Whether that means looking younger or just enhancing some of your lesser liked features, plastic surgery doesn’t care what age you are.

Just because millennials are having more nose jobs these days doesn’t mean that the over 40 group isn’t, it just means that the popularity of certain procedures is appealing to a younger generation. If you’re thinking about having plastic surgery and have questions, or would like to setup a consultation, contact us today at Dr. Adams Plastic Surgery. We’re here to help guide you in the process and ensure that you get the best care possible.

breast implant larger

After Breast Augmentation Can I Go Bigger in the Future?

We have had many patients come back to us after having breast augmentation surgery asking if it’s possible to go larger.

The short answer is yes, it is possible to increase the size of your breast implant after you’ve had the surgery, but there are a lot of things to consider before doing so.

When we have a past patient that comes in asking about larger breasts after they’ve already undergone breast augmentation the first thing we do is show them their before photos. Once the patients see their original before photos when compared to how they currently look, it becomes more obvious how much larger their implants currently look.

After a longer period of time you get used to how the new breasts look and oftentimes forget about what you used to look like before the procedure. In some patients this leads to them almost think of their breasts as their own breasts without an implant in they come in wanting to be bigger.  There are a lot of considerations that need to be discussed because the most important thing in what we stress of patients before their first surgery is that they should pick implant that fits her breasts and this will give him the best outcome the best experience and a result that truly gives some beautiful breast shape but doesn’t make them look too big or what a lot of patients call making them look “fat”. In most cases though, once we’ve shown the patient their original before photos they are more likely to see just how much larger and shapelier their breasts actually are and that’s where the conversation ends.

Of course, that’s not always the case though. There are still those patients that have their mind set on going larger no matter what we show them, and that’s totally fine.

We’re here to help you be the best version of yourself you can be, and if that means you’re still unhappy after your initial surgery, we can certainly help with that.

The reality is that sometimes especially people that are really petite they can only fit a certain size implant into the breast so if it’s one or two years later they do have the option to increase the size of their breasts in a reasonable way and sometimes this is desirable to the patient and very doable from the surgical standpoint.

Should You Increase Your Breast Implant Size After Initial Surgery?

As we stated above, the decision is truly yours and yours alone, but we as the surgeons with experience in this field will offer up our professional opinion on whether or not it’s a good idea.

There are some downsides to having your breast size increased after already having implants, the biggest one being that you’ll have to undergo another surgical procedure in an area where you’ve already had surgery.

Repeat Surgery

If you’ve already experienced breast augmentation then you’ll know what to expect, but having a second surgery in the same place can be a little more uncomfortable. The surgeon will have to cut through scar tissue and areas of the muscle that have already re-healed, which can lead to a different recovery.

The anticipation of a second surgery may or may not cause an increase in stress since you already know what to expect. If you had a bad recovery experience, or post-op experience with your first surgery, then you may be more easily worked up going into the second one. Stress can also cause the post-op experience to be more difficult than it was previously.

Finally, the fact that you’re increasing the size of your breasts is going to feel different on your body than the first procedure, so just because you have experienced it before doesn’t mean that it will be similar.

Changing Your Mind After Plastic Surgery

The good news is that with breast augmentation, whether you change your mind and want to go bigger in the future, or you want to have your implants removed, the procedure itself is pretty straight forward.

Since it’s a foreign object being placed in your body, and not necessarily areas of your body being removed, then you can always opt to have the implants replaced or removed at your discretion.

Other cosmetic surgeries such as rhinoplasty, tummy tuck, otoplasty, and more, cannot be reversed as easily. If one of these procedures is performed incorrectly, or you’re not satisfied with the results, there are ways to try to correct them in order to get you closer to the results you were expecting, but you’re not really going to have these sorts of procedures reversed.

During our consultations we always make it a point to properly manage expectations from the procedures we perform. When our patients come in with unrealistic ideas on how their body is going to look after a procedure, it’s up to use to make sure to explain to them why those results are not possible.

Using 3D modeling and examples of past surgeries, we can better show the results on your actual body so you’ll have a better understanding of how you’ll look after the surgery.
