What is Breast Lift Surgery
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to raise and reshape sagging breasts, remove stretched or excess skin, reduce enlarged areolas, and reposition the nipples to a more natural position. Women with smaller breasts may still be excellent candidates for a breast lift. If there is enough existing breast tissue, a lift alone may provide a beautiful, rejuvenated result without implants. For patients who desire additional size, fullness, or upper-breast volume, an appropriately sized implant may be recommended.
Breast Lift With or Without Implants
Every breast is different. Dr. Adams will develop a surgical plan based on your anatomy, existing breast tissue, skin quality, and aesthetic goals.
A breast lift with implants can often be performed in one surgery. In some cases, a two-stage approach may provide a safer or more predictable result. During your consultation, Dr. Adams will evaluate your breasts and measurements to determine which approach is best suited to your goals and anatomy.
Dr. Adams will also provide a 3D simulation of a lift alone and a lift with implants, helping you visualize the potential differences between the two options.
Recovery May Be Easier Than You Expect
Many patients are pleasantly surprised by how manageable recovery can be. Dr. Adams’ surgical technique minimizes trauma and EXPAREL®, a long-acting local anesthetic, during surgery to help reduce incisional discomfort. Many patients are able to manage postoperative discomfort with Tylenol® alone, although additional medication is prescribed.
Patients can often drive within a day or two, provided they are not taking medication that causes drowsiness, and may gradually resume cardiovascular exercise after a few weeks. Strenuous activity and heavy lifting will require additional healing time.
Scar Care
Scar care is an important part of the healing process. Once the incisions have healed, patients begin a scar therapy regimen. Our team follows your healing throughout the recovery period and provides guidance as your scars mature.
With normal healing, breast lift scars typically fade into fine, faint lines over time. The vertical portion of the scar often heals particularly well and can become quite subtle as it matures. Individual scar healing varies based on factors such as genetics, skin quality, and the body’s natural healing process.
A Personalized Approach
The ideal breast lift is different for every patient. Dr. Adams considers your breast size and tissue, skin quality and laxity, nipple position, breast asymmetry, body proportions, previous pregnancy or breastfeeding, weight changes, and any previous breast surgery when developing your treatment plan.
Whether you are considering a lift alone, a lift with implants, or a staged approach, Dr. Adams will discuss the options that best fit your anatomy and goals while prioritizing your safety and long-term results.

Is Breast Lift Surgery Right For You?
If your breasts differ in size or structure, a breast lift might be beneficial. Since a mastopexy not only lifts the breasts, but also reshapes and restores, this technique can be used to help with oddly shaped or uneven breasts.
If your nipples point towards the floor or appear to significantly fall below the crease of your breasts, then you may be a good candidate for a lift. The nipples are effective indicators of sagging and stretch and can be used to quickly gauge what might be best for you.
